We live on a human farm, and this truth is so painful that most people will react with visceral outrage, denial, and anger when confronted with this reality. Deep down, underneath all the layers of propaganda, they know this truth, and speaking it triggers them, in the same way that traumatized people are triggered.
Because government propaganda is fundamentally traumatizing.
It teaches a worldview that is opposed to reality, and training a human being to believe something that is evidently in opposition to what their eyes see requires traumatizing their brains. Human beings are born curious. They ask questions and seek the truth, and it takes many years of metaphorical (or sometimes literal) beatings to break that desire to understand the world, and replace it with a resignation to life on the farm.
Some will defend the farm, others will say there is no farm.
They will do whatever they need to maintain their delicate state of cognitive dissonance as they try to maintain two sets of competing ethical systems: one for you and me, in which theft, murder, and slavery are unacceptable; and one for the government, in which simply renaming these criminal acts to taxation, war, and conscription magically make them okay.
The truth: Governments farm humans, and nations are human farms. To a government, people are livestock.
They want to keep you alive, most of you anyway, so that you can continue to be productive so that they can steal from you. They want to keep you somewhat happy, or at least not too mad, so that you don’t rock the boat.
They want to protect their farm from other governments, in the same way that a cattle farmer would want to protect their livestock from thieves.
But this does not mean that the rulers in government care about you. You are a slave to them. You have some value, but you’re also fairly disposable because there are so many slaves in any human farm.
Everything else, from “national defense” to “democracy” and “elections” is propaganda, there to placate the human livestock, because the truth is that there’s far more of us than there are of them, and if most of your neighbors weren’t completely and utterly brainwashed, the government would cease to exist very quickly.
No military, no police force, no tax collection agency, can continue committing crimes against people once the veil of propaganda is lifted. It only works with the tacit support of all the people who have been taught, from a young age, that government (and therefore evil) is necessary.
Now imagine if all the people fighting over which side of the same coin they think should run the farm during fake “elections”, instead started questioning whether we should live on a farm at all…

I waffle back and forth on this essay. There have been periods of time that I've felt this way and times I feel the exact opposite.. I feel like as I watch my kids live and make things enjoyable, they're making life happen in a great way. Then I watch others and I did read it years ago, they work, pay the bills, groceries and a little free time and a little extra money. Just enough of the last two that they think their free. Nobody has to beat them to produce the labor... I see both sides but appears the later is becoming more of the norm....
